Reposting With Buzz
NB: posting to blog will repost to buzz. Comments for each venue are sui generis and do not cross/repost. Accordingly, let's keep the bulk of comments in buzz so we can minimize the number of places people have to look for information.

An Excuse From The Trenches
Hi Kelly,
Your mix is coming soon. Really, it is. Like, Friday at the latest. The thing is, I've been working on it pretty regularly for almost a month now, and what happened is that sometime last week I got horribly sick of all the music I had chosen and lost the ability to determine whether or not songs were, well... "good." So I stepped away, and came back last night with a vengeance. We've got content. We've got a song order. We've got a CD case and sleeve designed and ready for build. Mostly. I might need to cop a glue stick from work.
Oh yes, Kelly, it's coming together.
But you've gotta hang on for a couple more days while the final cuts are made and last necessary tweaks to the order emerge. Getting from 2 hours to 1 is a challenge! High School was long!
Once it's received, I'll happily share more of the mix-making experience, post the mix, and if desired, some of the background for each choice, and in some cases, why songs are where they are.
Basically what I'm saying here is: hang on. Your mix is coming, and when it gets there, its delay won't have been caused by any lack of effort or thought. That isn't meant, of course, to guarantee that you'll like it. That would be foolish.

For Janelle: Seeking My Center
Task: Max - If I am killing people, you are saving people. When you find yourself lost and buried... what do you listen to in order to find, inspire and save yourself?
Well, Janelle, buddy, I find that when I'm lost buried, the progression to my own center traces a fairly consistent path:
1) calm down
2) get funky
3) stay light
4) drown out
5) calm down
6) explode.
Come, get in my head. And thanks for making me make this, because I will almost definitely end up using it for exactly its intended purpose.

Preamble to a Mix
See, folks, we really should be using the blog to present, manage, and comment on mixes. Otherwise we're gonna end up with a huge, year-long, fractured email chain...
...at which point this will more closely resemble my job than it will play.
So eff that noise, let's post mixes here and announce them over email, like I'm about to.

Minimix #1
To spice things up while we wait for the upcoming October 16th hotness, I figured we could do a mini-mix.
I've paired everyone up (except for the Rocker and the Revivalists, as they have enough on their respective plates). Your job is to request the mix you're craving right now (roadtrip mix, bitchy mix, break-up mix) via the blog. If you haven't recieved your email request from blogspot, then let me know and I'll resend it. After the mixes have been requested, each partner will create the mix using 8tracks, a wonderful online resource that lets you create your own mixes.
Please post mix requests and 8track links in this post's comment thread so everyone can enjoy them.
Here's the partnering, again at random:
Brannon - Lauren
Luke - Allison
Tim - Kelly
Kabool - Schuyler
Janelle and Max, if you want to get in on this, you're partners :D
Annnnd go.

REVIVAL #1
Hello Revivalists,
Sorry it took so long to get this started, but here we go. Here's how this works. Every month, I'll randomly choose one "Rocker" and two "Revivalists." The Revivalists conjure up the mixtapes, and the Rocker gets to bask in the combined musical glory (within 2-5 business days). Broken down, here are your tasks:
Rocker:
- Rock out with/without cock out
- Critique music (on FB or via e-mail) Please include tracks and band names of each CD.
Revivalists:
- Create mix CD and send to Rocker - make sure to include tracks and band names. CD art and colorful commentary optional.
- Be willing to upload CD tracks to Drop.io, Grooveshark or other hosting site if requested.
Everyone else:
- If the theme speaks to you, contact each other and arrange alternate mix swaps.
Pretty simple. Keep in mind that all the tasks are optional, but the more involved we get, the more fun this will be. In the last revival group I was in, it wasn't uncommon to recieve packages with CD cover art, letters, newspaper clippings, random toys and other odds and ends related to the theme and the Rocker's critique would often spur conversations that lasted for days.
So, without further ado, here is September's Rocker and Revivalists:
ROCKER: Kelly
REVIVALISTS: Janelle, Max
THEME: High School
Interpret the theme however you see fit.
Rocker, please send your address to Max. He promises not to kill you, or stalk you (probably). Revivalists, try to have your mixes out to Kelly by Oct. 16th. Everyone else - if you want to opt in to this theme, feel free to contact other group members and get some alternate swaps going. There's only one official Rocker, but there's no reason why we can't all participate.
